Dearest Sobrinos,
As much as I love you, I say "dearest" with a little apprehension lately. You have been a bit challenging, especially Noah lately with the moods and crying to Daddy.
Yesterday, in honor of your grandmother's birthday, we went to the beach where we had scattered her ashes five years ago, on her birthday 2006. We met your dad down at Salisbury Beach and it was the first nice afternoon in a long time. You both played with your dad with a ball and ran around, played "fight" with the waves ( a strange game your father made up) and we all ate fried dough and pizza together. My pizza got knocked off my plate when Noah kicked the ball right at me, plop in the sand...I guess that was revenge for me giving him a bloody nose a couple of days ago when you were here and we set up to play Baseball in the yard. Noah made me help him set up the bases then proceeded to order me to pitch to him. My first pitch hit him straight on the nose, giving him a nice nosebleed. They crying wasn't as bad as it was yesterday on the beach. I was glad for the loud surf so I didn't have to hear the wails to Daddy after Noah tripped in the sand. "Time out" seems to be becoming more frequent. Noah had it recently for hitting my forehead with a ball and refusing to say sorry. Dylan had it for stepping on a flower(daffodil) next to the tree in front yard. Part of the problem is you are both sick with colds constantly! It's ridiculous! Between the germs at the school and the Day Care..anything floating out there..you get it! And another problem is you dad trying to be the fun guy and not setting enough limits with you both. I had a talk with him about it recently, just what everyone wants, unsolicited parenting advice from non-parents, but it si getting ridiculous on occasion when we see you ordering your dad around, "Carry this!" Give me that!" and you are old enough to learn please and thank you. One day, Dylan work up from a nap and the rest of us were sitting out on the deck with the dogs. Dylan got into the van, sat in carseat and said he wanted to go for a ride. Your dad was going to actually follow his orders and make the rest of us get the dogs to go in the house so he could open the gate and back the care out! I think he saw the look on my face an switched gears pretty quickly so Dylan did not get a ride. There's too much negotiate and not enough limit setting. When your da takes you in for a nap, it sounds like a party down there. When I take you in for a nap, yeah, there's crying but it sets within minutes, especially when I start reading a story. And you both fall asleep 100% of the time! Last time, so did I (fall asleep) for a couple of hours. You guys are so snuggly! I'll miss that as you get older and no longer need your naps, at least as much.
We had fun at the Beach though. We tok pictures of us together in the little photo booths!
love, Auntie Kim

May 8, 2011 Beach Picnic
Dear Noah and Dylan,
Today is Mothers' Day and your daddy dropped you both off at your mom's house. We spent yesterday and last night together . Had a great time! I went to the the beach with you and your dad and we played volleyball and had a picnic. It was so beautiful there...still needed a sweater but sand was warm enough to go barefoot. We played "chase" with the big waves rolling in. Someone's dog tried to get our watermelon in the container!
After that, you both took a nap with your daddy and slept until 5pm! Yikes! Then, Auntie Susan and Uncle Richard came over and we had supper together...delicious Italian food from Giuseppes. We danced with Auntie Susan up in the loft. And then after supper we watched Toy Story 3. It was fun! You stayed up past 9:00! And then you wouldn't go to sleep and were giving your dad a hard time. This morning when Dylan got up he looked in the living room and said, "Where's all the kids?"
Some of the things you guys say are priceless. Wish I had a chance to write everything down! This morning, your daddy put a sweatshirt on Noah and he said, "You're awesome, Dad!" Dylan thinks everything is funny, even when it's not- Uncle Joe had to put him in time out because he told him to eat his oranges and he got up and left the table! (he ate the oranges later..and wanted more!)
Your dad is supposed to go to his friend's house, Christina and have supper with her and Lily for Mother's Day. He seems happy about dating her but still sad about the threat of not having you both every weekend because of your mom's new schedule. Hopefully, all that works itself out just fine and no need to go to court again.

April 8, 2011: Potential Stepmom and Stepdad
Happy Spring Sunday! You are both taking a nap tour house downstairs with you daddy and I'm on the deck enjoying a very beautiful day! We just got back form a walk on Plum Island with Ruby, your daddy and Uncle Joe followed by a Gelato in Market Square in Newburyport. We sat on one of the benches and watched some guy set up a magic show. As much as I love it when you guys are here, It sure is nice and quiet when you take a nap!
So later today, guess what you both are doing? You are going to a farm with Daddy's new friend Kristina an her little girl named Lily. Your daddy seems to like her a lot so we'll see where this goes! It's only been 2 weeks since he met her but he's spent a couple of nights at her place in Methuen and you kids got together at a park once with her and her daughter. Your dad seems happy about it but exhausted! Can't handle twin toddlers, a new relationship and a promotion in his job all a the same time! He's lucky he has us when he can come chill out on the weekend with extra help to take care of you guys. Uncle Joe and I both love it! Sometimes I get a little sad when you are here for the weekend right after you both leave. I just really enjoy us all being together.
You are both quite verbal now although we still can't understand everything you try to tell us. Noah has been asking "Why?" a lot to everything and Dylan just laughs at everything like it's a big joke. You are mean to each other sometimes stealing each other's toys or juice. Today we drew our shadows in the driveway with chalk. We watched Shaun the Sheep, Noah's favorite episode, E. 5 where the aliens come and power their spaceship with sheep poop. You both like talking about farting, too, and you are intrigued with the no farting symbol in our kitchen. You both love to take walks, also. Last night we walked in the neighborhood behind our house with all three dogs. Noah did a good job walking Jack. Noah is very helpful around the house, too, helping me sweep the deck since Cuddles's fur was everywhere. I cut her and Jackie on the table.
You both make all three of us laugh so much! I wish I could remember half the things you say to write them down! You are not both fully potty trained yet but pretty darn close. Your daddy made you were diapers to bed last night and you were pretty pissed off. That was because last time one of you had an accident in the bed.
I guess your mom has a new boyfriend now named Adam. I asked you guys if Adam was a nice guy and you said yes, but a "scary guy" and that he had a motorcycle. I'm not sure what that was all about! Will be keeping my ears and eyes open on that end! I saw his picture on Facebook...looks like he's a hunter and has a dog and doesn't seem half bad. I just hope your mom hooks up with a decent guy that will be a loving stepfather. No matter what , you know you have Auntie Kim and Uncle Joe for you here!
We will always love you whether we are here on Planet Earth or "up on the moon" with Auntie Kim's mom! :-)
Love, Auntie Kim xoxoxox

Saturday, February 26, 2010: More Family Drama and Plenty of Fish
Dearest nephews,
Well, there is never a lack of drama in the lives of Ken, Noah and Dylan K, that is or sure! Your mother would probably kill me, or will probably kill me once she finds out I've documented these stories for your information, but I will not share with you until you are old enough to go to war...18 and hopefully old enough to recognize the fallibility (is that a word?) of your most significant adults in your life and all humans (including yourselves..believe me, I'm predicting at least one visit to Dylan in prison after the last stint on the timeout chair.) And most importantly your ability to forgive and ACCEPT each other for your mistakes, lapse of judgment, poor decisions, weaknesses, whatever it may be. I'd LOVE to have some history of what went on with my mother's side of the family, not only when she was a child but when her grandparents were children and what their day to day lives were like amidst whatever forms of drama unfolded.
So the latest is that another woman called your dad and informed him that her husband is having an affair with your mom. Of course, your mom denies it, but the woman tracked her van to his house in Haverhill and his car to her house in Bradford. It may not be a full blown love affair but they are certainly spending lots of time together since Karino (spelling?) is friends with Nick. Anyway, this woman blames the cause of her impending divorce on their relationship and is out for blood. Hopefully not real blood! She did approach your mom in a supermarket and question her about it in a rather crude manner and your mom has called her to try to explain nothing is going on. I'm guessing you mom may be taking advantage of this guy's willingness to entertain Nick on weekends when sh'e working and splurge on things like motorized cares for the two of you. For all we know, she may still be involved with Dan, the origin cause of angst between your Dad and Mom (to put it mildly) Don't forget, your mOm has never had much of a role model for relationships or love period, never knowing her birth father (your blood grandfather ( and being subject to a stepfather with a temper. (Papa had his days pre0Jehovah witness apparently)
While all this is going on, your dad finally sees able to be seriously nursing meeting other women, potential stepmothers for the two of you! In fact, today, I'm hoping he'l meet me on the beach to meet a woman in my dog group. He's been corresponding via email with a couple of strong candidates and has talked with one on the phone for an hour. I haven't heard any updates since Monday so I'm dying to hear if maybe he already had a date with one last night even since I think you guys were with your mom. Uncle Joe, Grandpa K and I have been his cheering squad reading through profiles of some of the women. One sounded particularly nice..there was a picture of her at a baseball game with a nice smile. The website is called Plentoffish.com Granpa K has been spending lots more time here since Chris has had to be in Southbridge to help Pam. Pam just had a second surgery on her leg a2 days ago to remove more melanoma, including a skin graft It's been quite an order.
You guys have been coming over quite a bit and we've been walking around the yard on the snowshoe tracks I made. We have snow about 3' deep out there! I have you follow me around on the trail to wear you out an get some fresh air. It's been hard to exercise myself since my foot has been injured. (plantar fasciitis) and hard to exercise dogs..snow too deep everywhere and so many cold and windy days! This has been a winter to remember for everyone!!
We often have a fir in the fireplace and you two love it, especially Dylan who likes to lay down on the hearth next to the screen. We got hooked on a cute TV show called Shawn the Sheep. Dylan LOVES it. Noah does too but often request the other British one about a dog named Kipper I think.
You guys are still very hard to understand but we can communicate so much better now. You are taking everything in like a couple of sponges! You both love helping me feed the dogs but Dylan likes to be a wise guy and puts one morsel in the cup and shows it to me with a smirk on his face, meanwhile the three dogs are sitting, waiting and drooling...Cuddles whimpering a dn shaking with enthusiasm, waiting of re magic word "OK" to release them. One time you guys were helping me find dog poops in the snow trail. Noah went in to get a bag as Dylan and I disappeared behind the house. I was on snowshoes. Noah came back out on the side porch yelling "got bag! Auntie Kim! Got bag!! " But he couldn't find us until we got back around the house and climbed over the snowbank to the deck. Both of you walked along the trail, carefully looking for those errant poops we had seen...so cute!
Last weekend, you were here both Friday ad Saturday nights and then Sunday your dad mentioned going to the "bouncy house" in N. Andover. Dylan started to get his coat and say goodbye to us! I'd say the Bouncy House is a favorite!
